The best loyalty program for a Greenline dispensary is the one Greenline can feed live and your counter can run without slowing the line down. That narrows the field quickly. This page covers four things: what Sticky Cards does for a Greenline store, how the integration works at the till, why a wallet pass beats a punch card, and what it costs.

Sticky Cards for Greenline POS

Sticky Cards is a cannabis loyalty and marketing platform. It reads order events from Greenline and keeps a wallet card on the customer's phone up to date against them. Greenline is a Canadian-built cannabis retail point of sale, or POS, covering inventory, sales and regulatory reporting. It is the system most Ontario and British Columbia stores run.

Three things follow for a Greenline store. Enrollment finishes while the customer is still paying, because the card installs from a QR code. Points come off the real Greenline ticket, not a nightly file. And the reward applies as a discount inside Greenline, so the budtender never leaves the sale.

A Greenline retailer in Canada also has consent rules to meet that a United States store does not. Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, usually shortened to CASL, asks for three things. Consent before a commercial electronic message goes out. Identification of the sender. And a working unsubscribe in every message (CRTC, Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation). Ontario stores work under the Registrar's Standards from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario as well. Its section 6.0 governs advertising and promotions (AGCO, Registrar's Standards, section 6.0). Sticky Cards records every opt-in with its timestamp and its source. That record is what you produce when asked. Meeting the promotion rules for your own market stays your job. The deeper Ontario detail sits on the Greenline integration page.

How the Greenline integration works at the till

The connection is event driven, which is what makes in-till redemption possible. Sticky Cards subscribes to the Greenline event stream rather than polling it on a timer. Orders, refunds and loyalty updates arrive as signed webhooks, and each one is acknowledged. A failed event replays from the last cursor, so there is no duplicate order and no missing customer.

Redemption runs the other way. In-POS redemption means the reward applies as a discount on the Greenline screen the budtender is already using, mapped onto the discount engine the register already has. There is no code to type across and no second system to open.

This is the part that decides whether a program survives a busy Saturday. A reward that costs the counter thirty extra seconds gets skipped when six people are waiting. A program that gets skipped stops producing the repeat visit it was bought for. The number to watch is the reward redemption rate, meaning the share of earned rewards that get used. If signups look healthy and redemption does not, the problem is at the counter.

The Greenline side of the setup is documented screen by screen in the Greenline guides.

Wallet pass loyalty instead of a punch card

A wallet pass is a loyalty card that lives in the app already on the customer's phone, which is the whole reason it gets used. It is a real Apple Wallet or Google Wallet card. Apple issues it through PassKit and Google through its loyalty card APIs, and it installs from a web link with no app store download (Apple Developer, Wallet Passes, Google Wallet, loyalty cards).

Three things a punch card cannot do. The balance updates itself when the store pushes a change, so the number on the card is the number in Greenline. The card survives a new phone, because it is tied to the customer's account rather than the handset. And it carries a notification channel: wallet push is a message sent to the pass over Apple and Google notification rails rather than through a mobile carrier.

That last point is worth more in cannabis than in other retail. CTIA is the United States wireless industry association. It publishes the Messaging Principles and Best Practices that carriers apply to business messaging. The May 2023 edition lists the restricted content groups the trade shortens to SHAFT, for sex, hate, alcohol, firearms and tobacco (CTIA, Messaging Principles and Best Practices, May 2023). Cannabis sits in that group with tobacco. So text campaigns are checked against it, and they can be filtered after approval. A channel the carriers do not sit in front of is worth having.

What a wallet card does not do is change your advertising rules. CASL consent and the promotion rules for your own province apply to a push notification the same way they apply to any other message.

What it costs and what moving looks like

Pricing is built on your store count and your send volume, and the number arrives on the call. Billing is month to month, there is no setup fee, and credits do not expire. Migration of your list, your loyalty balances and your creative is included and run for you.

Here is why that matters at a Greenline store's margins. Headset builds its figures from register sales at licensed dispensaries. It puts the average dispensary basket in the 12 months ending June 2026 at 47.29 dollars, holding 2.74 items, across 473.8 million transactions (Headset, Cannabis Industry Statistics, 2026). At a basket under fifty dollars, one extra visit is worth a few dollars of margin. That is the number any loyalty spend has to come in under.

The room to work with is in retention. Headset's retailer panel puts average cannabis brand retention at 34.0 percent of tracked category customers, with a median of 32.6 percent, as of July 2026 (Headset, Cannabis Brand Loyalty). Two in three customers do not come back to the same name.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best loyalty program for a Greenline dispensary?

The one Greenline can feed live and your counter can run without slowing down. Sticky Cards reads Greenline order events as signed webhooks, and it applies the reward inside Greenline. Those two things decide whether a program produces repeat visits.

Do my customers need to download an app?

No. The card installs into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet from a QR code and a short form. There is no app store step and no password, so enrollment finishes while the customer is still paying.

How does a budtender redeem a reward in Greenline?

The customer presents the pass. The budtender sees the available reward and applies it as a discount, on the Greenline screen they are already using.

Does it work for a Canadian dispensary?

Yes. Greenline is Canadian built, and Sticky Cards contracts in Canada through 2643113 Ontario Inc., operating as Sticky Cards. Canadian sends run on express consent under CASL, with sender identification and an unsubscribe in every message.

What does it cost?

It is built on store count and send volume, and quoted on the call. Month to month, no setup fee, credits that do not expire. Migration is included. Book a demo
