Dispensary birthday campaigns: reach birthdays this week

What a Monday morning looks like when you plan ahead

The Has Birthday This Week segment in Sticky Cards includes every dispensary customer whose birthday falls in this week.

The working week in front of you. This is a list you read, not usually a list you send to.

What is the Has Birthday This Week segment?

Everyone here has a birthday in the current week. Unlike the daily version, this list is stable enough to actually look at and act on before the days arrive.

That makes it a planning tool. A manager reading this on a Monday knows how many birthday redemptions to expect, whether any regulars are on it, and whether anything needs setting aside. None of that is a campaign, and all of it is worth more than one.

It is also the right list for a store that has not built the automation yet. A weekly send is a workable stand-in for a daily play, and it is much better than a monthly one, because a birthday message that arrives three weeks early is not really a birthday message.

The reach rows matter less here than the names do, because the main use of this segment is reading it rather than sending to it. Where you do send, email suits it: you are reaching people ahead of the day rather than on it, so there is no urgency to carry.

What should a dispensary send to customers with a birthday this week?

The Monday planning readNone

The main use. Open it, see who is coming up, and let the counter know. No send involved and it is the highest-value thing on this page.

The weekly birthday sendEmail

A reasonable stand-in if the daily play is not built yet. One send a week covers everyone within a few days of their date, which is close enough to work.

The regulars checkIn store

Cross with your top spenders and see if any are on this week’s list. Those are worth handling personally rather than automatically.

Ideas to try

The Monday routine

Make reading this segment part of opening the week. Who is on it, which of them are regulars, and does anything need putting aside. Five minutes, no send, and it makes the automated message land as if a person was behind it.

No subject line: this one is five minutes on a Monday

The interim weekly send

Run a Campaign Blast each Monday to this segment while you are building the daily play. It covers everyone within a few days of their date, which is a lot better than a monthly send and a lot easier than nothing.

The regular on the list

Cross with Top 20% Spenders. A handful of names at most, and each one is worth a note to the counter rather than an automated message.

What to measure

If you are only reading this list, there is nothing to measure and that is fine. If you are sending to it weekly, compare its redemption rate against what the daily automation achieves once you build it. The gap is the cost of the timing, and it is usually smaller than people expect, which is worth knowing before you delay the whole campaign waiting to build it properly.

Questions we get

Is a weekly send good enough?

It is much better than nothing and only slightly worse than a daily play. A message a few days either side of a birthday still reads as a birthday message, so do not hold the whole campaign back waiting to build the automation.

Does the week start on Sunday or Monday?

Check the segment in your dashboard against a date you can verify before you build a routine around it, so your Monday read covers what you think it covers.

Why bother if I already have the daily automation?

Because this one is for you rather than for the customer. Knowing who is coming up lets the counter recognise someone, which is the part an automation cannot do.
