Bulk cannabis buyers: dispensary customers who buy ounces and half-ounces

Sell more to the customers who already buy big

The Bulk products segment in Sticky Cards includes every dispensary customer who has purchased any product of 28g or more, or flower over 14g.

These customers plan their trips. Get the timing right and you own the whole cycle rather than one visit of it.

An illustrative basket, not your store’s data. One long bar and a long gap until the next trip is the whole cycle you are marketing to.

What is the Bulk products segment?

Everyone here has bought a product of 28g or more, or flower over 14g. They are not browsing. They came in with a plan, bought enough to last, and worked out what that costs them per trip before they arrived.

That changes what marketing does for you. A bulk buyer is not deciding whether to buy, they are deciding when and where. Your job is to be the store they think of when the cycle comes round, which is a timing problem more than a persuasion one.

They are also the customers most likely to compare. Buying a lot makes small differences in price and availability worth noticing, so being out of stock costs you more with this group than with anyone else.

The Loyalty row matters most here, because the whole strategy depends on knowing when they last bought and what they took. A bulk buyer without a Sticky Card is a cycle you cannot see. Push is the right channel for stock news to this group, since it costs nothing and stock news is worth sending often.

What should a dispensary send to bulk buyers?

The restock alertPush

Availability is what this buyer actually cares about. Telling them the thing is in, on the day it lands, beats any discount you could attach to it.

The cycle reminderSMS

Timed to roughly when they would be running low. One text at the right moment is worth more than four at the wrong ones, and this is the group where the right moment is predictable.

The range expansionEmail

When you start carrying a bigger format or a new supplier, these are the people who will care. Email gives you the room to explain what is different.

The counter heads-upEmail

Tell them before a price or supply change lands rather than after. A bulk buyer who finds out at the till has a reason to try somewhere else next cycle.

Ideas to try

The restock play

Build it in Play Designer so a push goes out to this segment when the products they buy come back into stock. Set it once and it runs without you, which is the only way stock news gets sent reliably.

Sample subject line

Back in, and in the size you buy

The cycle text

Cross this segment with No purchase in 30+ days. A bulk buyer who has gone a month past their usual trip has either stocked up elsewhere or forgotten. Either way that is the moment to send.

Sample text

Been a little while since your last big trip. Everything you usually pick up is in. Reply STOP to end.

The heads-up email

Run it as a Campaign Blast whenever supply or pricing is about to move. It costs you nothing, it is useful, and it is the kind of message that makes a store worth staying with.

Sample subject line

Worth knowing before your next trip in

The top-tier crossing

Cross with Top 20% Spenders. Bulk buyers who are also among your highest spenders are a very short list and worth a phone call more than a campaign.

A heads-up before anyone else gets it

What to measure

Track days between visits for this segment and watch whether your timing is pulling it in. That gap is the whole game with a bulk buyer, and it moves in a way that open rates never show you. Alongside it, watch how often you are out of stock on what this group buys, because that is the number most likely to be costing you them.

Questions we get

What counts as a bulk product?

Any product of 28g or more, or flower over 14g. It is a size rule rather than a category one, so a large pack in any category counts and a small one never does.

Should I discount to bulk buyers?

Rarely. They already buy a lot, so a discount mostly reduces the margin on a purchase that was happening anyway. Spend your effort on stock reliability and timing, which is what actually decides where they go.

How do I know when someone is due?

Watch the gap between their visits over a few cycles. Rather than guessing a number, cross this segment with the absent lists, which will surface anyone who has drifted past their usual pattern.
