SMS engaged in 180 days: who is still worth a dispensary text

Decide who is still worth texting

The widest text window. Useful once or twice a year, and useful every month as a decision to make.

What is the SMS Engaged (Last 180 Days) segment?

Everyone here is among your engaged text subscribers over the last 180 days. Half a year is a long time in a channel people read within minutes, so the far end of this list is barely engaged at all. The rule behind engagement is not defined in the product yet, so this page does not state one.

That makes this less an audience than a boundary. It marks where your text programme stops being worth paying for, and its most valuable use is helping you decide who to stop texting rather than who to text.

There are two or three sends a year where it earns its keep, and they are all the same shape: something everyone in your store would want to know, where missing people costs more than reaching the wrong ones.

This row against SMS Opted-In is the reading that matters. The gap between them is people who agreed to receive texts and have not responded to one in half a year. That group costs you credits every time you send wide and it is the clearest candidate for retirement in your account.

What should a dispensary send to your widest text list?

The once-a-year announcementSMS

A move, a closure, a change to how loyalty works. Things where failing to reach someone costs more than the credits do.

The last-chance messageSMS

Aimed at the tail, before you stop sending to it. One clear message, then a decision, rather than paying for the same silence every month.

The retirement decisionNone

Not a send. Decide which part of this list you will stop texting and hold to it. Continuing to pay credits for people who have not responded in six months is a choice you are making by default.

Ideas to try

The tail audit

Send to this segment with SMS Engaged 90 Days under "Don’t send to". That is your dormant text list. Look at its size, price what it costs you across a year of wide sends, and decide.

Sample subject line

No subject line: this one is a number and a decision

The last-chance text

One message to the dormant group, written as if it is the last one. Anyone who responds moves back up the ladder on their own. Anyone who does not has told you something.

Sample text

We have not heard from you in a while. Your points are still on your card if you want them. Reply STOP to end.

The annual send

Keep one or two sends a year for this list and make them count. Something everyone would want to know, not a promotion.

Sample text

We are moving to a new address next month. Details at the counter and on your card. Reply STOP to end.

What to measure

Annual credit cost of the dormant tail. Work it out once: how many people, how many wide sends a year, what that costs. It is usually a larger number than expected and it is the only measure on this page that leads to a decision rather than to another campaign.

Questions we get

Should I keep texting people who have not responded in six months?

Probably not. Text costs credits per name, so the silence is not free. Send one last-chance message, then decide, rather than paying for it every month by default.

Is there any reason to send to this whole list?

A couple a year. Practical news where failing to reach someone costs more than the credits, like a move or a change to how loyalty works. Not promotions.

What if someone responds after months of silence?

They move back into the narrower windows on their own, because the segments rebuild themselves. That is what makes a last-chance message worth sending before you retire anyone.
